One of Europe’s most famous ski mountains, Val d’Isre vaunts 537 kilometres of marked pistes and is easily accessible from Geneva airport. The season commences in Nov and finishes in May. Val d’Isere caters everything for you. The town unfolds through the vale from La Daille up to Le Fornet with the buzzing centre in Val d’Isere. The bunch of pretty homes contain chic shops many of which have arisen since the town was voted for the winter olympics.

Split into three different parts the town has lots of trails for all levels of skiers. With a cracking snow record, the village is hugely fashionable amongst pro boarders and motorway skiing intermediates, on the other hand you don’t have to be especially experienced to enjoy what is there. It’s easy to why umpteen Brits are pulled in to the town, with its famous night-life and the range of entertainment on offer, moreover the proximity of Tignes allows you to venture out to calmer areas if it all gets a bit much.

Pros

A superb night out in France. Everybody talks English. Easy approach to Val d’Isre and Tignes known as the Espace Killy ski area. It has lots of cars and although there are regular buses in the daytime, devoted party animmals had better aim to be within a short distance from the centre.

Cons

Pricy. Hectic and very popular with English tourists, thus not for holiday makers anticipating a classic French town to enjoy a relaxing trip. Numerous skiing lifts can close in stormy weather conditions. Some challenging blue and green runs.
